Spinvox, the company that listens to your voicemails and sends them to you as a text, has been sold to Nuance for a total of $102.5 million ( $66 cash the rest in stock ). The sale has come at a time when Spinvox has been weathering some tough times with investors as well as rumours that they employ staff (real people) to process the voice mails they have been processing.
Founded in 2003 by Christina Domecq and Daniel Doulton the company has had several issues, struggling to pay its bills and employees at one point asking employees to take their salary in stock payments instead. The final blow came in September 2009 when Invesco Perpetual wrote down the value of its investment in Spinvox by 90% and announcing its sale.
Nuance, better known for its voice recognition software Dragon Naturally Speaking made the purchase in the last few days, it says to expand its reach in the voice recognition industry, hoping to capitalise mainly on Spinvoxs 100million global user-base as well as existing client portfolios infrastructure.
