
After several months of anticipation, Orange UK and T-Mobile UK have finally merged to form the UK’s largest mobile phone operator, with 713 stores across the uk, 16,522 employees and a customer base of 30 million.
The merger will bring benefits to customers, with roaming across both networks set to be free and greater network coverage, benefiting T-Mobile customers who will soon be able to enjoy better 3G coverage across the UK. The downside will be that Orange and T-Mobile will no longer be competing, but European regulators seemed to think the merger was OK as long as the existing network share agreement with 3 was altered to ensure sufficient competition in the market.
