Twitter have announced that they will be rolling out paid pro accounts, in exchange for more features or “add-ons” as co-founder Biz Stone is reported to have said.  What these extra features may be isn’t clear but the recent hunt for a product manager to manage clients and the products available to them suggests that there will be several addons on launch.

This raises the question what companies or individuals would pay for. Maybe a more powerful analytics style back-end, so organisations can monitor tweets a bit like Twitterfall.com but within twitter’s own interface, maybe more ad space tied in with these accounts. There is also the possibility of paid accounts for individuals, although how they’d go about doing this without making a massive impact on their existing traffic, is a question they maybe be still trying to answer.

Either way, Twitter is looking at ways to bring in more money. Its traffic has grown 1382% in a year, and with a user base growing this quickly, to quote Dan Frommer at businessinsider.com, “it has has many potential revenue-generating options at its disposal, including ads, premium accounts & corporate user verification” to name a few.
