This weeks stumbles were inspired by the widely used design approach, open source.  Were all exposed to the mass distributed open-source projects such as Mozilla Firefox, Open Office and the newly emerging music player Songbird. All great pieces of software taking on well funded and backed projects such as iTunes, Microsoft office and Internet Explorer respectively.

The stumbles this week have been picked to open your mind to the open source world, ranging from discussions on the philosophy of open-source to open source software hubs and ending with a bonus stumble on Net Neutrality, a concept that’s crept up and will dominate the tech world in 2010 onwards.

  • Why software should be free : Richard Stallman on why software should be free. If you want even more then follow this up with this ebook by Sam Williams on Richard Stallman’s crusade for free software. Ebook
  • 5-apps-you-run-that-suck-and-5-replacements-that-don’t : Does exactly what it says on the tin, although I wasn’t quite convinced on the comparison of Adobe Reader against Foxit PDF Reader but comments on this post offer better solutions.
  • Open source everything: Enough said about whats on the site. Another bonus is the well categorized browsing system for browsing by OS then by purpose. Limited selection though.
  • Open Source God: Saved the best till last here. 480 + open-source resources and apps so get stuck in, one piece of advice though, know what your looking for or you’ll end up on this list for a while.

Bonus

As mentioned, this is a video on Net Neutrality, have a peek.
