iPhone 3.0 software is about to be released with features such as copy and paste and MMS being brought into play, which raises the question how they’ve managed to not have these features in the first  or even second OS release. Looking at the features to be introduced below, many have existed in rival phones for years.

  • MMS has been a mobile standard for 4 years now
  • Copy and paste across apps has been a feature on windows mobile devices for years.
  • Search , aka “Spotlight” , Blackberry’s have this feature owned.
  • Voice Memos, app developers have beat them to this.
  • Stereo Bluetooth, Sony Ericsson, Samsung etc have had this for about 2 years now. You’d also think that a company such as Apple who makes music devices like the nano, shuffle and touch would have introduced this early on for the Nike+ addicts.
  • Landscape keyboard, Windows devices like the HTC touch HD and Samsung Omnia have these and have done for some time.
  • Peer to peer connectivity, well how long have people been bluetoothing files to each other?
  • Accessories, windows mobile devices have a vast catalogue of these.

So hopefully you start to get the picture, Apple will be playing catch up when it introduces it’s new iPhone software this summer. That’s a first for a company that’s used to bringing us new innovations. Maybe the new shape iPhone itself will be the wow factor we’ve come to expect from Apple.
